Book clubs

Mountain Time would love to visit your book club, either in person or via Zoom. I have found that my readers enjoy talking about the snakes, pack rats, frogs, and especially prairie dogs in my essays. Please use the Contact tab to get in touch. In the meantime, here are some questions you could use to jump-start conversation among your club members:

  1. How did the book change your opinion or perspective on the topic? Did it confirm or contradict any of your assumptions or expectations?
  2. What was the most memorable or impactful story, anecdote, or example in the book? Why did it stand out to you?
  3. What was the most surprising or shocking thing you learned from the book? How did it make you feel?
  4. What are some of the ethical, moral, or social implications of the book? How does it challenge or support your values or beliefs?
  5. Did the book inspire you to take action, change your behavior, or think differently about something?
  6. How did the author research and write the biography of the subject? Did she use any sources, interviews, or documents to support her facts and claims? Did you trust that the author is an authoritative source on the subject?
  7. How much did you know about the subjects of the book before reading? Did you learn anything new or surprising about them?
  8. How did the author use the setting and context of the book to enhance the subject's life story and perspective? Did the author succeed in creating a sense of time, place, or culture?
  9. What was you favorite quote from the book? Why did this quote stand out?
  10. What questions do you still have after reading this book? What would you like to learn more about?
